New Wizard for Submitting a Cache Listing on Geocaching.com

New cache submission wizard

The folks at Groundspeak pushed out an update to the geocaching.com website today around 1 P.M. EST.  The most obvious new feature to geocachers is the new wizard for submitting a new cache listing.

The old version of the form is still the default way to submit a new listing, but on that page there is a link for the beta version of the new page.

The biggest difference is the much smoother flow to the wizard compared to the long for that we are used to using.  While it takes some getting used to to click from one section to the other it does seem to be clearer for users.  I clicked through the wizard with some dummy information and stopped right before the final submission and my first impression is that it is much easier to use. We are planning on hiding some caches this weekend so I will try both methods back to back to better document the differences.

Groundspeak has some additional notes on the new release on the  Latitude 47 blog and they are inviting geocachers to leave comments on the new form.

I would love to hear any first impressions any readers have on the comments below.

Geocaching in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico

Geocaching in Puerto Rico, what an experience.

You know what I love about geocaching the MOST? Versatility. It is the hobby you can do anywhere, for free (if you have a smartphone) and you can make it as easy or challenging as you want.

I had the misfortune of being sick for the majority of our vacation, but I still wanted to make the most of it, so we found some easier caches while going to all the “touristy” areas. These were simple, yet thrilling finds. We found a geocache in El Yunque, which is an amazing rain forest in Puerto Rico. We found another one not far from there, and guess what? We met the cache owner! Her geocaching name is lulusoy and we even got a hint out of her for a geocache we DNF’d on.

April Birthday Cache 2012 – The Start of a New Geocaching Tradition

This past Sunday, the 15th of April, many Americans were worrying about finishing their taxes.  In our house it is Heather’s, our geocaching mom, birthday.  This year we wanted to start a new tradition of hiding a new cache to commemorate the birthdays of the Geocaching Family.

Since we have three birthdays in a row, we will place one cache for the April birthdays and one cache for each birthday.  It will be interesting to see how long the caches last and to revisit them every year.

Any one else have any traditions around their geocaching?  Caching on certain special events or creating special caches for holidays? Sharin the comments below.
